I’m really glad you’re here. We have some exciting news to share with you.
We’re building a modern day working homestead!
What does it even mean to homestead? Well, the general idea is to live in such a way that is resourceful, sustainable and harmonious with God’s creation.
We will be raising Farm animals
When we started hatching out this idea a few years ago, we knew that we wanted to have enough pasture to sustain several different types of poultry and livestock. When we started seriously looking, we were really discouraged because land in Mississippi is so expensive. A lot of it is commercial farmland, meaning big agriculture, which sells for much higher a price per acre than pastureland. But we are not giving up! The search continues for a property that we are praying will provide us the space we need to practice all the farming systems that we’ve dreamed of since the beginning.
what farming systems?
I’m talking about PERMACULTURE, which is the practice of using sustainable, integrated, diverse systems in such a way that mirrors natural, harmonious ecosystems. In other words, we want to farm in a such a way that we steward the earth and animals gently and cooperatively. This produces natural stability and resilience. Probably you’re thinking, that sounds like the most hippie, granola, crunchy thing I’ve ever heard. And I know, I get it. But we have confidence that this is not only good farming practice that works, but it is also good stewardship. We hope to convince you, too.
An ever growing homestead
Part of the homestead dream expands beyond our little nuclear family and into the next generation. As our family has grown- or outgrown- our cozy Mississippi home, our dreams have as well. For two years, we have literally squeezed eight people around a six person table in a dining area definitely not equipped for it. We dream about our future there and see a space with rows of tables, large enough to offer everyone a seat. We want our modern homestead to be a force that pulls people into its warmth, including you.
