faq and substitutions for cranberry relish

Can I cut back on the sugar? You can cut back to 1/2 Cup of sugar for a tangier version of this recipe, but I would not omit the sugar entirely or the result will be slightly tart and almost bitter.

Can I substitute frozen cranberries? Unfortunately, no. Frozen cranberries will soften when thawed and the end result will not be the same. For the crunchy relish texture, this recipe really needs fresh cranberries.

Can I substitute a different variety of apple? If you can’t find honeycrisp, you can substitute any hard variety of apple, such as Granny Smith or Golden Delicious.

How far ahead can this be made? Because of the acidity in the cranberry and orange, this relish can last in the fridge for up to TWO WEEKS! Just be sure to store in an airtight container.

How do you serve cranberry relish? Cranberry relish can be eaten by itself, alongside roasted turkey or beef, or spooned over a warm brie or cream cheese for a lovely appetizer.
