why you’ll love Dutch Oven fried apples

These tender baked apples are perfect for spooning over ice cream, pancakes, oatmeal, or simply eating straight out of the bowl. I grew up eating them, and they are a classic Southern dish often served alongside Honey Ham, Chicken and Dumplins, or other soul-nurturing dishes. Because you are going to bake them, these Dutch oven fried apples are a great way to use up apples that have lost their freshness and crispness. They are best served warm when they are creamy and delicious. And they taste just like a crust-less apple pie! Give them a try- I think you will love them!

  • 6 Tbsp of Salted Butter

How to make fried apples

These fried apples are super easy to make. My favorite recipes are the ones you can just throw into the oven and forget about! Hours later, the delicious smell reminds you that you did something magical. But not only is the smell amazing, the taste is even better!

First, peel and chop all of your apples. Then, add in the sugars, salt, cornstarch, and cinnamon. Next, chop the butter into a few chunks and toss them in and give them lemon a good squeeze over all the apples. Finally, stir the apples until they are well coated in the sugar and cinnamon. Then, pop them into the oven to bake!

How do I store these? Fried apples can be stored for up to three days in the refrigerator in an airtight container or they can be frozen for up to 5 months.

How do I reheat these? You can reheat these in the microwave for thirty seconds or in the oven for ten minutes. Then, simply stir before serving.

Can I add other spices? Sure! Add a pinch of nutmeg, allspice, cardamom, cloves, or other favorite spices.

Can I replace the cornstarch? You can use 2 Tbsp Tapioca Starch or 4 Tbsp Rice Flour to thicken the sauce in place of the cornstarch.
